When did the Information SuperHighway become the Information Junkyard?

Did the likes of Google and Yahoo cause this to happen by their eagerness to index every piece if garbage on the net, regardless of age and relevance to current topics?

How often has a search returned a seemingly interesting site only to find the site was created in the last century and the “News” you are reading hasn’t been relavent for 10 years?

The Internet needs to be cleaned up. I recently visited several datacenters of massive proportion, one of which housed a google installation (about 60,000 sq ft of solid racks). I heard that they actually have about 800,000 servers worldwide. What a garbage dump! Where is the real value in holding some home page image from some 10 year old which was posted some 20 years ago? But, they have it.
